The short answer

The testimony of faith, called the shahadah, affirms that no one is worthy of worship except God and that Muhammad is His messenger. Becoming Muslim involves accepting this belief sincerely; repeating unfamiliar words without understanding is not the point.

A little more context

You do not have to complete an academic course, adopt an ethnicity, or become perfect before beginning. A trusted, knowledgeable person or local mosque can explain the testimony and help with practical learning. Community support can be valuable, but faith is not a purchase or a paid membership.

Take questions seriously and make the decision freely. This website does not conduct conversions, issue certificates, or collect declarations of faith. If family, housing, or personal safety could be affected, seek trustworthy support and plan carefully rather than feeling pressured to make a public announcement.
